From the ground to the finished piece.

Source D'Amour is a two-maker studio in Phoenix, Arizona. Les and Jeremy run it, and the work stays under one roof from rough rock to finished piece.

Almost nobody does both halves of that. Lapidary and silversmithing are separate trades, learned separately and usually practiced by separate people, so a stone is normally cut in one shop and set in another. Ours is cut, shaped and polished here, and the silver that holds it is made here.

Material arrives the way material actually arrives: a curbside haul on a Phoenix sidewalk, a trailer loaded at a show, a collection a family is finally ready to part with. Jeremy does most of the cutting: he saws the rough into slabs, grinds the cabochons and polishes them, which is why we can still tell you where a stone started. He also brings thirty years of cabinet making to the studio, and the casework the finished pieces are shown in is his.

Les does most of the setting, the faceting and the metalsmithing. The silver that holds a stone is made at his bench. Both of them cross over when a piece asks for it.
